World Clock
Live clock for 9 cities across the globe with UTC offsets, plus a UTC-offset converter.
Converted clocks
Offsets are standard time; daylight saving is not modeled, so results may differ by an hour in summer.
What is it
Every city on Earth keeps time with a fixed offset from UTC. This tool shows the current clock for UTC and eight major cities — Beijing, Tokyo, Sydney, Dubai, Paris, London, New York and Los Angeles — ticking live. Below, a small converter: pick a UTC offset and a date-time, and see what the clock reads in each city. Note: the offsets used here are the standard (winter) ones; summer time (DST) is not modeled, so a city may be off by one hour around its daylight-saving period.
Notes & fun facts
Why does noon not follow the sun exactly? Because time zones are political conveniences, not geometry: China uses one single offset across five time zones of longitude, and India is stuck at a half-hour offset (UTC+5:30) from a 19th-century railway compromise.
Origin & history
Standard time zones were pushed by railway companies and adopted at the International Meridian Conference in Washington in 1884, which also set Greenwich as the prime meridian. Before that, each town kept local solar time — London was 4 minutes ahead of Oxford. UTC itself was formalized in 1972 on top of atomic-clock time.
